Day 4 - Tuesday

Bahia San Luis Gonzaga - Bahia de Los Angeles ( 106 miles)

You may want to go for a morning swim in the crystal clear water before we head farther south.

Our first stop will be a visit at Coco's place. Coco is a Mexican squatter who made camp right next to the road. He heas become a celebrity of sotrs and by now on all maps his spot is named after him. His life depends largely on donations made by travelers. Coco lost one leg due to an infection and is about to lose the other one too.He is a good source of information for everything within a 100 mile circle. You'll love him.

Enchanted Valley

Instead of following the regular dirt road, we will be traveling on the historic Camino Real, the trail connecting all missions in California. What might have become part of a freeway in our world - here it is still a 10 ft wide trail. We'll pass through the Enchanted Valley and an absolutely breathtaking cactus garden before we reach pavement at El Crucero. Few people ever get to see this part of Baja. 4WD makes it possible.

The last part of our drive today is on pavement. But just like outside of San Felipe it is marked as asphalt on the maps - the reality is way harsher, it will be a slalom drive around crater size potholes. The view of Bahia de los Angeles is difficult to describe with words. You will need the support of your camera to take this memory home.

We'll spend the night at Hotel Las Hamacas - a simple but clean place. Their restaurant is one of the best for many miles.
